Hailed by critics for both his singing and acting, tenor Matt has wowed audiences worldwide with his versatile performances of contemporary and traditional repertoire. His numerous awards include being a triple-finalist in the Irene Dalis vocal competition, twice being runner-up in the Palm Springs Opera Guild competition, and being a Western Regional Finalist and New England District Encouragement Award winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
Matt grew up in a small town in central Illinois and first discovered singing in Junior High when he joined choir and a barbershop group. It was only a few short years later when the acting bug bit him while performing Mayor Shinn in a production of The Music Man. His path was set when his high school choir went to St. Louis and he saw his first professional production of a musical, Les Miserables. He went on to graduate from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois with a BFA in Musical Theater.
After college he moved out to Los Angeles where he performed in theatre, film and even appeared on an episode of The Dating Game with Chuck Woolery. While working with Theatre West in Universal City, he was introduced to an amazing voice teacher who trained him in classical voice technique. He went on to be an Apprentice Artist with Santa Fe Opera, and a Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theatre of St. Louis. before launching on a decade long career focusing on opera.
Recently he has returned more to his first loves of theatre and film when moving to the beautiful mountains of Asheville North Carolina
As the theatre and film world has largely been on pause during 2020, Matt has been involved with some virtual play readings through the Attic Salt and Magnetic theaters.
